Russia and Republicans: Sailing 2022 with a Common Agenda

Over the year 2021, Russia has successfully managed to influence the US foreign policy by amassing massive troops across its Ukraine border.

The communist nation has initiated a warring debate, creating tensions in US domestic policies where lawmakers were already busy denigrating each other over the unpassed domestic agenda of Democrats.

Vladimir Putin led Russia backed Donald Trump in the 2020 Presidential elections and even tried to manipulate elections results. So for him, the biggest foreign policy goal is to empower Republicans once again in America.

Russia and Republicans have Common Agenda in 2022

At a time when Russia’s heavily censored media is busy feeding the communist narrative of the last century to the masses, the worries are high in the US as well to create a counter-narrative.

For instance, Russian media is idealizing the times of the erstwhile Soviet Union and presenting it as a utopia to its younger generation.

Thus, even those who were not born back at the disintegration of the Soviet Union are inspired by the communist model that succumbed to capitalism in 1991.

Despite the fact that Russia marks three decades of its disintegration, warmongering perpetuation by the state media is at an all-time high, and their leaders are busy criticizing the western bloc amid the backdrop of Ukraine tensions.

All of this already happened in the times of the cold war, when two superpowers took each other by horns.

Winning the full attention of Joe Biden seems a massive victory for Vladimir Putin.

And the timing of all of these episodes cannot just be a mere coincidence. At a time when a crucial midterm election looms over America and Democrats are already struggling to reclaim Congress, Russian actions can play out against them as well.

According to the already established reports, Russia wanted Donald Trump to win the 2020 Presidential race and tried to manipulate the elections; however, the attempts were successfully averted.

Thus, the common goal of Republicans and Russia in the 2022 races is to give Democrats a crucial blow so that Trump could have reasons to initiate his 2024 presidential run.

Winning Biden's attention is a big achievement for Putin as the Ukraine issue was pushed in stalemate, and by amassing troops along border, Putin is successfully manipulating the foreign policy of the United States.

Winning Biden’s Attention is a Big Win for Putin

Now a significant portion of Biden and Congress’s attention is towards the possible Russian invasion of Ukraine, with a narrative building in America that the Biden administration is soft on its cold war foe.

And achieving all of this is a big achievement for the Putin administration in itself. This is due to the fact that Russia was fed up with a deadlock in the Ukrainian conflict. Since the Minsk II Agreement broke out in 2015, a sense of stalemate was prevailing in the region as it failed to stop the fighting it was supposed to do.

Mobilizing the whole world and bringing America on its heels is what Russia wanted in order to bring life to the issue once again, which it successfully did.

The same America, which was not taking the Russian nuclear power seriously, is now agreeing to talks that are about to get started soon.

With the January 10 US-Russia talks approaching, top-level communications between the two nations have already intensified.

The last time when the Minsk agreement was reached, in 2015, Paris and Berlin were the two parties that helped. This time, Russia is already enjoying leverage over Germany as the Nord Stream 2 pipeline is coming into operation soon.

Now Russia wants no intermediary in the new agreement it is seeking with America. And it has already put forward some of the demands which the Biden administration can not even imagine to achieve its worst nightmare.

For instance, Russia is asking America to remove NATO forces from the existing NATO states, a move that the administration cannot proceed with due to the local pressure.

Even though liberal and progressive lawmakers may push Biden to do it, the Pentagon is unlikely to go this route, as these very forces put America in the driver’s seat in European geopolitics.

Final Thoughts

President Biden has already signed the defense bill passed by Congress, which has the monetary support to Ukraine, a measure which Russia wants to overturn. Russia does not want America to fund the Ukrainian military.

However, it is not likely to happen. So, all in all, while the Russian invasion into Ukraine seems imminent, Republicans have much to celebrate if all of this happens, as it will give their 2022 midterm bids a significant boost.
