After the failed talks of America, NATO, and Russia, the European continent is on the brink of war, as Poland warns that the rogue ambitions of various states are disturbing the peace of the world.
Russia is putting demands that are impossible to be accepted by the western world. The recent wave of talks between all three stakeholders has just worsened the already existing crisis. However, it was expected anyway, as the situation unfolded just as most people predicted.
Imminent War in the World: US-Russia Talks Failing
The Secretary-General of NATO has already indicated that the major differences will be hard to bridge.
Russia is adopting the same tone which it did before the talks, that it is not planning to invade Ukraine, even though it has amassed a massive number of troops along its Ukraine border.
Instead, Russia is once again blaming NATO for undermining the situation, as its demands are being labeled as non-starters by the west.
As Russia wants NATO not to engage with Ukraine and former Soviet nations anytime in the future, the demand goes against the very concept of the NATO alliance. Russia is also asking NATO to scale down its activities in Eastern Europe.
This is the last thing America and NATO want to accept in any dialogue with Russia, which essentially puts the talks in a stalemate.
For NATO, defending the core interests of its allies comes before everything else, or all the teamwork since the end of the second world war would be in vain if the alliance compromises on its fundamental principles by negotiating with Russia.
While NATO can comprise anything including transparency of its working and the amount of money which each country contributes to the development of the local military power back in their own homes, however, it is hard for the alliance in general to ditch some of its allies.
America Cannot Afford to Ditch its European Allies
The main resistance is the United States in this regard. American political clout was already diluted recently when it did not consider France while making a new alliance in the form of AUKUS, so compromising on allies is out of the question.
Even though Russia is trying to eyewash the world, its high-level officials have claimed that the situation is getting “intolerable for Russia,” which can be perceived as a warning of war.
Russia is not active on the military front alone. Instead, it is trying to wage a hybrid war that can bring Ukraine to its knees even without an invasion.
Thus the US and NATO should also follow the same strategy. Unconventional wars demand unconventional responses, so NATO should deploy its counter hybrid teams that can wage a similar sort of offensive in Ukraine.
First, Ukraine’s capacity to defend itself should be populated to the maximum possible limit. Secondly, the US should try to safeguard the banking sector of Ukraine along with other high-profile institutions that can come under cyber attack from Russia.
Final Thoughts
Russian hackers have the capability to penetrate the strongest of systems, so invading Ukraine’s cyberinfrastructure would never be an issue for a cyber giant like Russia.
The country can even attack the financial data and the defense technology of Ukraine in total war, so the US and NATO should prepare for this sort of attack beforehand.
Similarly, the media war needs to be strong at the end of the United States if it wants to expand its ideology.
Just at a time when Russia realizes its dream of communism once again from its state-controlled media, it would be the right time for America to do the same.
